Harvard Walking Trail Gardens
Our gardens at Harvard Walking Trail, 2025 Harvard Lane, Terrytown, Louisiana were planted on October 26, 2018 and included a "Beauty of Life" garden, butterfly and herb gardens. The Beauty of Life Garden was planted to create awareness of breast cancer and in memory of those who have lost their lives to the disease and in recognition of breast caner survivors.
In 2021, the New Orleans area was hit by Hurricane Ida and the park sustained quite a bit of damage. Update, January 2024: A new fence has been constructed and three raised beds were recently installed. We hope to plant our new Beauty of Life, butterfly and herb gardens this Spring.

Members of Terrytown Garden Club were out on Sunday, October 13, 2019 to work on the garden. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, a "Beauty of Life Wall" was installed. Names of those in our community who are in treatment, have survived or lost their life to breast cancer have been placed on the wall. Pictured are Reba Mackey, Karen Ford, Joan Casseri, Joan DeMille, Marlene Alvarez, and Patricia Ortalano.
Some improvements were made to the "Plant It Pink" and Butterfly gardens at Harvard Walking Trail the Summer of 2019.. Thanks to Konrad Bechtel for the addition of trellises and his work in maintaining the gardens.
Members are shown here planting the garden and were assisted by Konrad Bechtel, the Jefferson Parish gardener. The project chairmen for the garden is Reba Mackey.
